11/11/2010 11:11 Armistice Day -2 Minute Silence- Thanks to all the brave soldiers around the world who have fought, died, lived, been injured by wars past and present to allow the majority of people in Europe and indeed the world to be free and paved the way for a united union in Europe allowing a generation of people to move freely, break down barriers of language, culture and thousands of years of differences.

    I'm wearing my poppy today!

<---- I'm wearing my poppy as well.

It's also Remembrance Day in Canada today and Veterans Day in the US.

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

Curse the rulers who've sacrificed millions of lives because of their selfish desires or inability to solve problems without resorting to war.

way to take a genuinely heartfelt thread and make it disgustingly political. good work there (applause)

Hats off to soldiers around the world who have fought on behalf of their nations.

Wow. Is it THAT hard to speak against the people who've SENT all our soldiers into Hell time and time again?

I'd think most people could understand the real source of the problem.

    Not you though.

I thought I included him... at least it was implied.

Okay, fine. It doesn't read that way though.

To me, your post implies that you want to curse ALL leaders who send soldiers to war (I realize that you didn't use the word "all"). Sometimes, and sadly, there is no other choice. For example, I don't think you can blame the Allies in WWII for going to war against the Nazis.

Peace is always better, but sometimes you have to fight for peace.

Whatever the political motivation or reasons to war, there's still the incredibly brave people who get up, go out, and fight for their country no matter what.

    That's Brave!!

Of course in WW1 & WW2 there was national conscription so many didn't have a choice, they could conscientiously object but that's illegal.

Even the bad guys the soldiers have a job to do for their country. Right/Wrong is so subjective and not the aim of this thread :)

    Peace.

Not half as sorry, as I feel for you.

Because you don't want to acknowledge the real problem... which means the solution will be ignored... left for future generations to discover, while we continue to solve our differences by sending our young men and women to die.

Sorry to not play by the threads rules.

You might want to reconsider putting it up in a diverse political forum if all you want to hear is "Ooh-rah!"
