Why do so many people around the world keep saying AsiaPacific?

Asia ia Asia and the Pacific region is it's own region. No one says EuroAfrica. And rightly so as Europe and Africa are two totally different places. The same as Asia and the Pacific, two totally different regions. It's also not right for the Asians too, they have their own rich history and culture and it should be respect as such in their own right, not with the Pacific people's tacked on.

On a personal note - If anyone says I come from the AsiaPacific region I tell them, don't be racist. The people of the Pacific region have their own identity and deserve to be recognised as such.

    Apple says this:
Recycling in Asia Pacific and Australia
    http://www.apple.com/recycling/nationalservices/asiapac.html

What the? Why separate Australia from Asia and the Pacific?
China etc are Asia and not the Pacific.
Australia (and others like New Zealand) is in the Pacific not Asia like Apple claim.

Recycling in Asia and the Pacific
That's a better term to use.

How do you feel about Eurasia? Europe and Asia are not separate continents. An invisible line has been drawn through the Ural Mountains and Istanbul. Do you find other regional descriptions equally as outraging? Middle East, Indian sub-continent, etc?

Serious question...I don't understand how the phrase AsiaPacific is racist.

Obviously I'm missing some implication in the phrase but, honestly, I can't figure out what it is.

Doesn't Asia-Pacific just mean East + South East Asia?

People can take offense at anything they want.

But I don't think the term "Asia Pacific" is meant to be insulting in any way. It is simply an acknowledgement of the fact that, for the past couple of centuries, most American attention has been focused upon Europe in terms of geography, trade, politics, and culture.

For various reasons, the region we refer to as "Asia Pacific" was politically and economically isolated for much of the past century. Japan, for instance, maintained a self-imposed isolation up until the mid-nineteenth century. Mainland China was isolated by political strife, and war for most of the 20th century - reaching a peak with the Cultural Revolution. Korea - north and south, was devastated by war. Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos also underwent periods of war and political turmoil.

Adding to Asia's political and economic isolation, was the very vastness of the Pacific Ocean itself. The distance between London and New York is roughly half that of Los Angeles to Tokyo. US airlines only instituted non-stop service between Tokyo and New York in the 1970s - while it had been flying non-stop to Europe for decades.

Political and economic changes in Asia, combined with advances in aviation and telecommunications technology, have enabled much of the region to become accessible in a way it simply wasn't a generation ago. And I guess "Asia Pacific" is the way we've decided to name it, for better or worse. But it is, if anything, an homage to the tremendous opportunity now creating itself in the region - rather than as a slur or insult.

If Asia-Pacific is insulting, What's EMEA? A declaration of war?

Hey, I'm a New Zealander of European extraction and doubt that I could be confused with the Samoans, who in the main stay in the warmer Auckland region. I tend to be domiciled in the Capital, thank you.

I call Samoans middle easterners or mexicans.

(FYI I only know one Samoan and he's my friend and its a joke because everyone assumes he's middle eastern or mexican).

If you really wanted to be honest about it, you could say that every race in the world is simply a variation of Samoans. Yeah, some people are a little darker, some a little lighter, some a little shorter, some a little taller, but when you get right down to it, we all look a lot like Samoans.
