I was worried about my credit affecting my ability to get the AT&T contract, or would require a large deposit. So I went to an AT&T store and had them run my credit. Fortunately, they gave me approval with no deposit required. They don't have any in stock right now, and she told me that some people in the past have been approved without deposit, but when they tried at a later date, were not approved. She gave me a reference number, good for a couple months. I would prefer to go to the Apple store and get it... anyone know if the apple store can use that AT&T reference number, or would they have to re-run my credit?

Yes, they should be able to. Like all other dealers, they have a number into AT&T credit. During the activation process, if the outcome is different they can call.

Yes, you were right. They managed it no problem. Now the happy owner of a 16gb white 4S :)
