I purchased a 64gb 3g version while vacationing in the USA last May. I live outside the USA so I have no use for the AT&T 3g sim since I use my home network's 3g connection with the ipad.

My question is whether it is still possible to activate the account with the AT&T unlimited plan if done today. The reason I'm asking is because I plan to give it to a friend back in the USA who purchased an ipad 3g after June 7 so was no longer offered the unlimited data option.

I bought my iPad 3G 64G online from Apple on June 1st and it arrived on June 15. The unlimited data plan was still available--it was one of the choices in the automated wireless set-up. BTW, I'd called AT&T about it twice and no one there knew anything about whether the unlimited data plan would be available. I guess since the customer service reps don't actually do anything to set up iPad data there's not much awareness.

Anyway, it seems that as long as you bought your iPad before June 7th you'll be okay--as long as you haven't already activated it on a plan.

    Good luck!

I bought my 3g ipad on the 15th and set up the unlimited plan on the 17th no problem. So you should be good.

What good is an unlimited plan when you can't download anything larger than 20MB???

Thanks guys. So there is a potential market for these unlimited sims after all. Lets say those who purchased the ipad 3g in the USA prior to the international release but use it in their respective countries may actually put these sims up for sale at ebay. Im sure there would be takers.

We have no idea how AT&T is tracking the unlimited. Right now the unlimited is still available. I would think it would be tied to a range of numbers on the iPad itself, not the sim card. But AT&T and apple aren't talking about it.

Your best bet for selling it is to someone traveling to the states. AT&T will charge $15 for one as a replacement. Then they'd just need to buy a gift card to use it when they got here.

But sims aren't treated the sane here in the states as you are used to either. That sim isn't anything until you put it in an iPad and activate it. I don't think it is a "magical unlimited sim", not in the sense of like the prepaid ones you guys can buy for 3 on ebay. We can't buy data sims like that.....

Thanks for the comments. Have no intention of selling my sim anyway. Im either giving this to my friend or keep this as a template for cutting up regular sims.
