I'm wondering how many people are currently sitting on grandfathered unlimited plans. I don't know if AT&T or Verizon has ever released this information, so I'm just curious.

One of our iPhones does; the other I lost when I had to enable tethering. That required a change to the new data plans (2GB, 4GB w/teather).

AT&T: No, I don't have it nor do I need it, but having the option would be nice.

I have an unlimited plan on both my iPhone and iPad. I never use that much data. I would only use a lot of data if I did video streaming which I actually do from time to time but not much. I would give both up for a FAIR Family Data Share Plan. One that could be used for my family's 4 iPhones, 5 iPads and 3 Laptops. Also, I plan to continue to buy Apple iOS Toys and want to be able to use all of them on 4G LTE Data when needed. Also, I am on Wifi 80% of the time.

I'm sitting on a 2GB Data plan (Verizon) on my iPhone 4S. After one day I've used about 0.128GB (Verizon reports 131.07MB, iPhone reports 398.9MB), and while I would enjoy having an Unlimited Data plan, I'm sure it will still be easy to stay within 2GB.

My mom however was grandfathered in on unlimited data via her old Blackberry. She has Unlimited on her iPhone 4 (and she barely uses the web; she just wanted an easy to use phone :p)

I'm hoping that when Verizon launches their shared data plans, they'll be reasonably priced package (Maybe 5GB for $50) that we can both share, cutting costs for her and giving me more data.

I am confused by this statement. Based on your usage, you would log over 3GB in a month. But then you say it should be easy to stay under 2GB.

    ----------

If you view the data package as a "price to own the iPhone", I can see that. If you view the data package as something you actually use, $15 for 200 mb is ridiculous. These companies really need to allow you to buy the phone outright (or used) and not require a data plan with it. They wouldn't be missing out on a THING this way. I am willing to bet they would even get more customers. Who cares if all they are paying for is minutes and texts if you aren;t subsidizing their cost of the phone.

I've only had it for one day, and I'm on WiFi for a >51% of the time to begin with. (Most places I go daily have WiFi)

The highlighted part is what confuses me. If you have only had it one day and used so much, what makes you think you will use drastically less later?

Verizon Unlimited. I've never used more than 800MB in one month.

I have grandfathered Verizon. I fully expect for them to disqualify the iPhone 5 from unlimited data usage though. I've been unlimited for 14 months and used a total of 15.5GB lifetime. And I use 3g a lot, streaming radio at least 30 hours a month, watch news video, etc.,

I do not stream netflix over 3g though.;):p

I don't think they will disqualify the iPhone 5. All the current 4G smartphones are able to be used with unlimited data plans so I can't imagine why the iPhone 5 would be any different.

Still have unlimited for both my wife and I on Verizon. I think I'd be fine with a 2GB plan but still want to keep unlimited. Hopefully I can keep it with the LTE iPhone.

My wife and I had AT&T unlimited and moved to Verizon with unlimited data. I average about 5gb a month and she's about 300mb.

I am grandfathered with 2GB-$25, which is the best valued plan AT&T ever offered. Basically unlimited for $5 less.
