At work when I unlock my phone sometimes my phone has the 'O' for service

    and the wifi doesn't automatically connect...anyone know why? it drains my battery.

    The 'O' is a network level lower than Edge and it's very bad at service. If you're having this issue and Wi-Fi problems, it could be a defective chip causing it. I'd take it in and see about a replacement.

    The O is GRPS, it's pretty much the slowest connection you can get. It will only drain your battery faster if you're trying to use the data and since it is slow, it will take more time and consequently, more battery.

    thats 1XRTT if you have a CDMA carrier or GPRS is you have GSM, basically 2G. how many bars do you have? sounds like you have a weak signal inside or at work and the phone is using alot of battery power to try to stay connected or search for better signal.
