Is Apple hurting their own Arcade User with this ATV 4K Update. Either by downgrading their current experience, or/and by having people buy this version now just to release more powerfull ATV in months?

Taken from DCRainmakers review of the new 2021 Apple TV 4K. ATriathlon focused site and basically the Site of choice when it comes to reviews of everything sports related.

That's just an app that has not been updated and so it selected the wrong capabilities (and it says so in the linked article too).

I have yet to see an actual benchmark.

Yes, I have also included this in my quotes. But also the part that the GPU theoretically is a downgrade.

While the A10X ATV included good GPU performance for its time of release, the A12 ATV not so much. Important if you are thinking about upgrading. As this is normally not what is expected with upgrading to a newer device with a newer chip. Especially that Apple has introduced Arcade between the two version.

Apple already has all the parts to send out a very good gaming focused Apple TV. And as the PC world/game developers already are planning the transission to ARM chips. Now would be the perfect time to introduce this little wonder, and of cource Apple knows this. But they also like it when their customers upgrade more often due to unexpected and better products become available.

For viewing focused content the new ATV 4K is great, no doubt about it.

Hopefully someone will do some more side by side comparisons. It‘s not looking good right now though.

But I could see that from Apples viewpoint, not a lot of people do hard core gaming on their ATV. So maybe they figured the single core advancement was enough.

But it’s going to be hard for the A12 to beat the core advantage of the A10X.

Yes, a direct comparison would be interesting to see, but even if the new A12s GPU is marginal better it is a sad upgrade for 2017 to 2021 move in terms of gaming performance (Sad only in gaming Performce as the new ATV is a great upgrade for many). And with the introduktion of Apple Arcade and its inclusion in Apple Go, gaming should have some focus at the Apple HQ. Isnt the A12 only used in the Budget iPad now, even the iPhone SE got a A13, so economics of scale doesnt look like the reason for this choice either.

I personally believe we Will see another Apple TV model with a short time frame, The Apple TV Arcade Edition. Still a line-up of two machines make sense. The current A12 version as the cheapest one with a focus on 4K media, and a newer premium version with a Focus on games.

Tim C. probably had to open the stereo nipple flaps of his shirt when he saw the increasing margins when using the outdated A12 compared to a better one.
