Very impressed to experience this. Here was the scenario...

We’ve had hazy air in our city for days now, due to bush fires.

I work in a building with sensitive air sensors (monitoring smoke, dust etc. to protect telecommunications equipment).

So whilst wearing the AirPods Pro’s in Transparency mode, the sensor alarm, detecting the haze, went off 🚨.

The AirPods then automatically switched to Noise Cancelling mode because I was near the source of the unbearable alarm sound.

& on another occasion, when I was further away from the alarm sound, Noise Cancellation kicked in only on the right Airpod which was nearer to the blaring alarm.

Very smart thinking by Apple, in that they’re protecting your ears from having piercing noises enter your ears, yet still allowing you to hear the high pitched alerts, in these emergency situations.

Has anyone else noticed Noise Cancelling automatically turn on, & what caused it to happen?

Edit...NC didn’t remain on once the alarm ended or I walked away from it - Transparency was restored, so NC only came on when it detected the alarm in the vicinity. Which is even better imo.

Haven’t noticed this myself but, I wear mine mostly inside my house.

I don't think it would on automatically. I have a child who sometimes yell and if i'm right next to it and have it on transparancy, I do notice that the NC does kick in briefly on the side my child yells at and then goes away as soon as it's in the safe zone.

Oh yeah, I neglected to mention that after walking away from the alarm, Transparency mode was restored.

NC was only turned on in the vicinity of the piercing alarm.

I’ll edit the OP...

Are you sure it turned on automatically?
Yep, but temporarily.
