AVCHD FCP Macbook

I'm looking to get a new camcorder to use with Final Cut Pro 6. I have been looking at AVCHD camcorders. Apple says you need to use "ProRes (requires Mac Pro)". Is this true? What is prores and do i need a Mac Pro for the power? I have a macbook so i guess it won't work. Will HDV work with my macbook? Are HDV tapes the same as minidv tapes? Any suggestions for consumer HDV camcorders?
