Hello.... it feels foreign to be writing on here after being gone from MR for so long!
I was on a Mac once in 3 weeks to do school work!
Anyways, camp was amazing. Duke TiP is a great program with an amazing staff, amazing classes, and awesome kids who are good to hang out with. If you know any young person considering doing it, tell him or her to DEFINITELY do it. It was an amazing experiences and I made friends that I hope I'll have for a long time.
I took "Mysteries of Human Consciousness," which was an awesome course.
I just felt like saying hi to everyone. I feel like I've totally missed something on MR and I hope you all still love me. :(
Anyways, TiP was great... I met some amazing new people... and I'm glad to be back home, even though it does seem a tad lonely after living with so many people for 3 weeks!
How have things been with you all?
Also, if you have any stories or questions or comments about the program put them here. Duke TiP is an awesome program. :)
This post may seem odd, but I felt a great need to post something after being gone for 3 weeks.

Sounds cool...glad to have you back. :)

One of my best friends is going to Duke (for college) next fall.

One of my friends went to a camp in the Northeast like that for a few years and absolutely loved it. Glad to hear they have more of them out there.

As a matter of fact he's there right now

very cool. i do a similar 3 week program through johns hopkins university. its always an amazing time, the class, the people, its a great thing to experience. mysteries of the human consciousness sounds awesome, last year i took great american legal cases (i want to be a lawyer). its great that you had a good time and its nice to have you back.

Thanks! I'm already missing everybody like heck... we've been in constant contact with one another... that's the thing about nerds... we're so wired that we can ALWAYS keep in contact. ;) :D
When is/was the program for this summer?

What does "TiP" stand for? What is it exactly? Is it one of those summer camp thing you guys do? They're not all the common down here so some info wouldn't go astray.

its alot of fun keeping in contact with everybody. i still talk to people from last year. the program i usually do is going on right now, but unfortunately i couldnt do it this year because of financial reasons   :( . was this your first year doing the program? i've done mine three years total, spread out over the past 5 years. how far away was the program from where you live? the campus i was at last year was about a two hour drive from where i live.

Yeah, this was my first year. Duke TIP goes on for 4-year, so being a "fourth-year" is a big deal, and that would be the summer after sophmore year. The campus was a 7 or 8 hour drive away from where we live. :)
Oh, in addition: The Site For the Program
I went to center.... it's different academic requirements for center & academy. Center's requirements, are, uh, higher.

Oh, yeah, we got termbooks! Did you guys??

(and they did an awesome slideshow on the last night before the last dance... did you guys have dances?)

yea, its really expensive. an amazing experience, but we couldnt afford it this year. theres always next year :)
Yeah, the thing that sucks is the cost.
Otherwise I'd be verrry tempted to do 2 terms a summer.
6 weeks at nerd camp! :D

was this the first year you are eligible? would be be able to be a fourth year student? mine also ends after sophomore year, so next summer is my last year of eligibility and i'll be a fourth year. ours goes 6 years, though. 7/8 hours isnt terribly bad, it could've been worse. definitely worth the drive i'm sure.

lol, i dont think i could go 6 weeks. it would be fun, but summer is time for me to take a break. anyways, it costs us like $3000/session, so 2 sessions is out of the question. i'm planning on taking a class with jhu cty over the internet this fall, though, so i'll get my jhu learning fix without the social experience.

yea we got term/yearbooks. they were pretty cool, i like reading all the signatures and things my friends said. we had three dances, all very fun  . we had a big slideshow on the day we left, with the parents there. did you guys have big activity things? i dont remember exactly what they were called, but we had a casino night and some other things i would have to look in the yearbook to remember. casino night was really fun.

The camps sound really similar, as far as cost and things to do and everything! We had special activites on the weekends, 3 dances, and evening activities (aka. mandatory fun) that were good but too long at two hours.
And 6 weeks would probably drive me crazy too. I had such horrid "TIP-sickness" after leaving that I just thought that was the only thing worthwhile doing in the summer. Period.

yea, they seem to be pretty much the exact same thing, except run by two universities. i think our mandatory fun time was a bit shorter, but i always had a good time picking out and going to the same activities as my friends.
the requirements seem to be very similar too. if you dont mind me asking what did you get on the sat's? also what grade were you in when you took them. i got 500 verbal and 610 math at age 13. as for TIP sickness, i know exactly what you mean. i was pretty upset to leave all 3 years, but especially last year.
do you guys have r.a.'s and t.a.'s? i have a funny story about my t.a. and teacher. our t.a. was a girl in her early 20's and our teacher was a man in his mid/late 20's. so all the time people were pestering them about whether they were together and things like that (even though they always said they weren't) and it was pretty funny. on one of the last few days, our teacher tells us that he is gay and that is why him and the t.a. thought it was so funny when people kept asking them if they were together. it was pretty funny, but i dont know that i explained it very well.
