It applies to Nanos and Touchs...

That did not happen in the US.

It did but it's not back to school time in the US. Here the school years are the same as calendar years with the big holidays from November/December though the January/February for schools and March for universities.

I think happened in U.K a few months ago.

But guys in US, you have much cheaper macs than us! Try using some currency converter on Macbooks or iMacs, and you gonna see...

Wouldn't that mean it would be cheaper to actually buy off the american website and then have it shipped here to Australia? Also getting the 5% education discount should help make it cheaper as well.

Never checked the shipping cost to australia... but take a look at a few examples: 17 inch MBP is AU$4499 = US$2940, in US stores it's only $2799, well that's about $140 difference.. If we add the shipping cost I'm not sure if the difference will be that much anymore.

US price doesn't include sales tax whilst the Aussie one does.

Before sales tax the prices are even closer.

    AU$4090 =US$2675.

Whilst the price everywhere in Australia would include the 10%GST, sales tax in the US is levied by multiple levels of government in many cases and can often exceed 10% of the price.

The prices here are pretty good, problem is although the laptop prices went up last time we didn't get a pay rise to offset the higher cost. For iPods though the prices are positively a steal.
