Hi everyone,

I recently sold off my Macbook Air M1 to a user from a local marketplace, did all the procedures, remove iCloud from OS (from system preferences), clean & format disk (disk used was empty, near zero, no Data drive), reinstalled the OS, boots into first setup screen.

Regarding the OS, it was still under Big Sur, not Monterey.

After first setup screen, I turned off the Macbook (cmd+q), and pack it up onto the box.

Sent it to the user, and when the user is setting it up, an error occured.

He knows English, so obviously he tried using other usernames & full names. Didn't work. Restarted the computer, didn't work either.

I tried searching around (also from macforums), the solution is to recover it through DFU/configurator, but that requires a secondary Apple computer. This user just entered the Apple ship, so no secondary devices at all.

Any help/guidance?

Will booting you recovering using disk util to format and then reinstall not fix it?

If there’s non user accounts on there, there shouldn’t be anything stopping a wipe and reinstall

Maybe try internet recovery / restore the OS?

The laptop is actually a fresh install, literally. The user expressed concerns that he only have mobile connection, and doesn't afford to do another install.

Is it possible to solve it without another reinstall?

The very very last solution is just to send it back to me, and I'll reinstall it again. Trying to find a solution that he can do it.

I saw there was a solution from an online search that says you have to remove the Mac from your iCloud account. Not just the signining out from iCloud?

Does it still show under your iCloud Account > Devices?

No it doesn't show anymore. It was removed after I disconnected it from system preferences.

check with the  store website and macworld, they had a "how to" sell your M1  device i read recently.
seems to me one needs to delete a program, and get an okay blessing personally from Tim Cook as well.
