BBC use iPhone photo to illustrate huge data bill story

Incredible as the iPhone is one of the few that we can be certain he didn't use. I pointed this out to the Beeb and trust that others will do the same. Shoddy journalism. I expect better.

Can we be "certain"? The guy is Canadian, so if he had an unlocked iPhone (and it is possible to pair it to a laptop) it wouldn't have unlimited data.

Very very poor journalism by the BBC there - as others have said the mere fact he racked up the bill by tethering the phone means the iPhone couldn't have been used!

To be fair… they do not actually use an iPhone to illustrate the story…

I just cannot imagine the Motorola Fan club forum seething with rage at the BBC's "inapropriate" use of their favourite phone. :p

Why not? - I've seen threads on how to tether your iphone all over the place, and read that lots of people have done it.

I think using an iphone for the article is actually fair - an unlocked iphone would rack up a large bill for data - the net is easier and more of a joy to use than other "smartphones" therefore you are more likely to use it. This is the reason I avoided an unlocked phone - I figured my data usage would bankrupt me so O2 it was.
