That's such an uphill battle, no way by the end of a first term will he achieve that. Bernie has been promising way more than he can handle. If he does win, the backlash he'll get for not producing will be major.

What is the matter with people?

I applaud Sander's sentiments. But honestly, even if - as President - he could persuade Congress to pass drug and/or sentencing reform laws: What is that going to do about the 2 million plus people in State Prisons?

Do people really not understand how our system of Government works?

Yup, that seems to be the premise of this POTUS election. If it turns out to be Bernie and Trump, both can't use that against each other.

The author's math is a bit misleading because it excludes administrative detention. Using the same source as Yahoo News did:

It may not be possible for us to know the true prisoner total in China.

Bernie supporters are absolutely delusional if they think he's going to pass all of his BS through legislature.

China is 4x bigger so should have 4x more prisoners.

The US prison system shouldn't be a benchmark for the rest of the world to be judged against. China shouldn't have anywhere near the prisoners it does, and neither should the US.

Either way, the article's assertion that it would take half a million people is extremely misleading even going by its own source's numbers.

In 2011-12, Ron Paul vowed to immediately presidentially pardon all nonviolent drug “criminals” nationwide, as part of his ending of the “war on drugs.” We got Wrongney vs. Warbama instead.

The pot sellers should be in jail. Not the addicts unless they committed so many rampant crimes...

More importantly, if prisons are full, how is a pot smoker more offensive to you than, say, a bunch of murderers or street thugs who more appropriately belong in prison?

But most people need help, in one form or another.

Correction, based on a few decades of observation:

Candidate x's supporters are absolutely delusional if they think the candidate is really going (and be able) to pass all of the proposed ideas through legislature.

And the other candidates aren't in the pocket of Wall Street? Maybe Trump isn't, but how exactly is Wall Street terrified of Trump? And for all we know, that's just as much a show between Bernie and Wall Street too. That's the problem when the people in genera lose trust in the system. Even the good guys and gals can't be believed at face value anymore.

In relation to population, in civilized states mid-european countries have 1/30 (!!!) of the prisoners in the USA…and in relation to the USA dramatically less murder, rape and severe crime. Citizens are not shot every day in Europe neither. Maybe because in europe there are still solid social systems which deserve the classification as "human"...
No Torture Sites for kidnapped people by CIA neither.

And: All european states and nearly all countries all over the world have accepted The international Court for Justice in denHaag… but the USA did not. The USA are in one group with China and Israel and some other states, mostly under dictatorship. Bernie voted against the war crime in Iraq 2013. Should express also his will to join USA with civilized countries accepting International human rights...

Better to think about that than having China for Prisoner-benchmarking…

    ;)

This idea of a "Democratic Socialist" is an oxymoron if you're the only socialist in the room. Countries with strong central governments and an authoritarian leader have failed miserably. He still needs the majority of 535 to pass anything he wants and that has about as much chance as I have of playing for the Yankees.

Anyone who says Bernie is "delusional" or his fans are "delusional" or that there is "no way" he can do what he says is the problem with politics and government and you honestly should not be involved in it.

People call Bernie a Socialist (including himself) but he's got a tinge of Libertarian thrown in there, too.

Yes Denmark and Sweden - two failed states at the hands of socialist executive heads of state!

"Democratic Socialist" is only an oxymoron if you don't understand the meanings of the words and how they fit together in context.
