I just went to best buy yesterday (august 20th) and found the 2011 macbook airs on sale for 949.99 and 1139.99 for the 11" models. I then asked the guys working there if they would honor the student discount that apple gives with $50 off and a $100 iTunes card. They said the $949.99 model was already as low as they could go but they would knock an extra $40.00 off the $1139.99 model making it $1099.99 and a free $100 iTunes gift card.

If anyone else is interested in getting the premium 11", this week might be a good time to go if you can get the student discount.

My GF needed a new laptop for her last 4 semesters so I decided to pick her up a open box last model MB air. Ended up getting it for $650 plus they gave me a apple tv. For what she needs it for, the newest model is just not really going to make much of a difference for word processing and facebook. :)

you think that open box price you got goes for all bestbuy's or on a case by case basis?

Definitely case by case. The best buy where I bought my brand new 11" air had open box 13" base model core2duo which sold for $1199 previously marked down to $1075. That isnt a very good deal at all. I guess they decide how much to mark down at each individual best buy.
