I have a library of ~6200 songs (~140GB) in iTunes and on my iPod 160GB
Almost all music is in Apple Lossless (CD/Vinyl/Cassette rips)
Disk space is not a concern on my iMac

Because the iPod is almost full I need to consider keeping a second library and convert to AAC 192 or 256 to keep music on the iPod while maintaining the lossless library as an archive and/or for use with the Squeezebox.

I have read about a method to keep two formats of all the music in the same library vs two separate libraries. This seems kind of messy and I would only be able to sync playlists that contain MP3 and AAC manually to the iPod.

I am looking for opinions on the best way to go and how to get there.

Thanks for the opinions and assistance.
