I want to move my iTunes library from an old Windows PC to my new Macbook Air (M1). I googled but find so many old out of date guides, can someone point me in the direction of a guide based on more recent iTunes builds and BigSur macOS? I don’t really use iTunes anymore and haven’t synced my phone with a computer for years but I want to bin the old laptop yet still ensure that I have all my old music and purchased music safe and accessible when needed. I’d also ideally like to have the main files on the MacBook but music files in a separate HD to save space on my MacBook.

I'm not sure exactly how the newer Music app stores the music in your user folder, but I believe you can just drag and drop the "iTunes" folder from your Windows machine to your user/Music on the new MacBook. Once it's done copying, you should just be able to open Music and it should sort out the rest. The last time I helped someone do this it was around the iTunes 8 or 9 days, but I believe it's mostly the same now. You may need to press "Option" on the keyboard while opening Music's app to select the music library folder once you copy it if it doesn't automatically see it.
