After doing a lot of Googling, it seems like it's not possible to screen-mirror an iPhone 8 to a 2014 Sony Bravia without a third-party app, because Sony doesn't support AirPlay and iOS doesn't natively support Miracast. Is that right?

That being so, is there a recommended app? I've tried a few, and they all seem rammed with ads and need a paid upgrade to actually be any use. I used the trial version of Mirror Sony TV and it's incredibly laggy, with the TV screen lagging seconds behind the iPhone.

I'm not sure such a thing exists. The official AirPlay built in to our Samsung TV works much smoother than any unofficial app I've tried on Windows or Fire TV. I haven't tried any paid apps but if the experience is poor it may not be worth it, especially considering these apps may not be well maintained for older TVs.

If you happen to have a Roku I know some models can be used to access AirPlay.
