Hi i was browsing through some of the social networking tools like Loopt etc and i was wondering which one do people prefer. My friends and i want to try it out but reading the reviews via the itunes app store, it's hard to gauge if the program is truly crap or good. the candidates i have narrowed down are:

Loopt - i'm worried of this one because it sounds like it will use up A TON of SMS messages and most of my friends aren't on unlimited SMS plans
    Shozu
    zintin
Limbo - i was impressed with their video presentation on their website
    iFob
    Whrrl

    Thanks. :)

I'm curious to know which one's the best too.

The problem is, there seems to be sooooo many different ones. Which do you choose? And apps like this only work if a LOT of your friends are also using it. I keep hoping something like Facebook will come out with functionality like the ones seen in some of these apps (I too, was impressed with Limbo), and then I (and all my friends) wouldn't necessarily have to join yet another social-networking app. (From what I've heard, it sounds like Facebook just might).

However, I think we would totally jump on one of these if it looked like there was ONE that was far better than the rest, and it looked like something that would grow and become more and more popular. For now, I'm taking a "wait and see" approach...

i agree, there are WAY too many of them. the only social apps i use (besides facebook/myspace) are twinkle (for twitter) and loopt.

yeah i thought i read Facebook is working with another company developing what these apps do. But the article i read wasn't detailed (doubt it knew the exact details anyway) of what/how the application would link everyone.

maybe i'll ask my friends to give Limbo a try for now but it seems (just by glancing) that it has the smaller community vs the rest. Loopt looks to be very popular but all i see are complaints about the SMS.

Is there an APP that allows me to see where my contact(s) are located without them being in the program? I want my contacts to see me but I can't run the program in the background and obviously can't run the program all day.

I honestly love Loopt, and its the only one I use and update religiously.

I have unlimited texting, but for those who dont, you can turn it off within the application so that YOU dont get an obscene amount of texts, but if you Ping or send messages to other people a lot, you are going to cause them to get those texts. Otherwise, though, I have my Loopt app post my locations and updates to my Facebook, and with how much I update it, my friends can usually get an idea of what I'm up to. I dont have a whole lot of other people that use Loopt with me, but I'm hoping that number will increase.

    Bottom line:
If you have unlimited texting, Loopt is awesome.

I tried Limbo when it was first released, and I still have it, but I just dont update it that much, if at all. Loopt is just way more simple.

    Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5A347 Safari/525.20)

can u minimize the amount of SMS messages loopy sends? Like turn it off completely?
