Hi guys,

today I`m going to pre-order the new iPhone 15 PM and I`m wondering what would be the best method to carry over the Data.
I`m interested in my App data and have been carried over my entire data (as there is no other option) within the past the years by using quick start which works just perfectly fine but I always have the feeling, that this method impairs my battery life.
Battery life has been not bad on my 13 PM and 14 PM but not even close to that what other people get and I`m really not running intense Apps. I also have not a single game installed on my iPhone.

Many people also claim, a clean setup vanishes the battery drain issue.
I wouldn't mind doing that but I really don't wanna lose my App data.
Is there any other way to carry over the in App data?

I've seen since a while you also upload stuff to iCloud and Apple gives you unlimited storage for the transferring matter. I got a Gigabit connection at home (upload and download) so uploading a high amount of data would not take too long.

Thanks a lot!

For me I back it up locally to the Mac via USB-C 10Gbps to USB-C 10Gbps cable then restore the backup to the 15 Pro Max.

Factory reset the previous iPhone when you resell or hand it down to someone else.

But the 14 PM does not support this speed.

And what is the difference between the Backup and Quick start?

Forgot about that..

Use WiFi or Lightning cable from your 14PM to your Mac then USB-C 10Gbps cable from your Mac to your 15PM. Cable connection is often faster han wireless.

You can also do direct 14MP to 15MP via WiFi.

A local backup to your Mac or an external drive provides you with a copy of your 14PM that is independent from iCloud.

I think you didn't get my point.
I have no problem with the data transfer, I am just worried about my battery life. If I carry over all data again so I am wondering if there was an alternative way...
Because it seems like phones restored from a backup may have an impaired battery life.

I just bring both handsets close together and use the wireless transfer. It's the easiest option for me. It's a pain having to re enter, and re set up all my banking apps and email passwords etc......
I could try the encrypted backup and restore using my mac, but will most likely just do the wireless transfer TBH....

Just follow the best practices you found on Google that leads to your better battery life.

More data a system manages the more the power drain.

I removed power draining apps like Facebook, Viber, Telegram and other related apps as they drain battery.

Tip on effective communication: Place the most important points at the title or 1st line in the paragraph. The way your describe your situation the battery drain you point out is the least of your priorities. This is demonstrated by how others are replying to you as well.

I tried everything regarding battery life increase.
I think I am quite aware of iPhones in general since I`m also maintaining them at work (IT Department)
I`ve really owned almost every model ever.

I`ve also removed battery draining Apps like Facebook, I keep the number of apps that run in the background as low as possible. There are like 12 Apps installed on my phone...

Another issue I`m encountering since the switch (used quick start) to iPhone 13 PM was battery drain in standby, I`ve never had this issue in an iPhone before. I lost like 5% of battery overnight same goes for iPhone 14 PM.
On my previous iPhones, I lost a maximum of like 1 to 2% overnight with the same Apps installed.

I'm sorry that English isn't my first language, I'm trying my best to express myself.

Have you read over this?

Have you consider that your problematic iPhone has a manufacturing fault?

My previous 13 Pro Max (sold at 97% battery health after 14 months of use) and current 14 Pro Max now at Battery Health 99%?
I also hope iOS 17 will be better when it comes to battery life.

I think the original poster is asking if there is a way to transfer individual app data instead of a whole iPhone backup. I’m actually wondering the same. It seems that a whole iPhone backup brings unnecessary “clutter”.

Exactly! Thank you!

You have 3 possibilities:

1) wireless by placing the two devices close together
2) via iCloud
3) via backup on a Mac.
If you have a backup with a security password, passwords and other sensitive data will also be transferred.

I've been carrying out my backup for years, never done a clean install and I don't think it's useful... it's just a cultural heritage that Windows users have.

Will this method also transfer the mp3 songs I had manually installed via iTunes from a PC? I know they don't currently backup in the iCloud.

I believe its just a phone to phone transfer - it doesn't use iCloud I think.....

I have around 230 apps.... but lots are trash and/ or leftovers.
Vacation somewhere new? Here's 5 airline app, 3 hotel chains, local restaurants, attractions, etc. With ~3 vacations per year, this adds up cos I never get to delete them :))

I actually counted the *very essential* apps: 27. Everything else is trash.

Also, most apps store data in their own cloud (e.g. Google, slack, x, banks, etc) yet they count towards icloud cos they have some "app data". This app data it shouldn't be backed up. For example, Genshin Impact has 20GB of "app data", but that's the entire game because it downloads from their server and not from apple store. Save games are still stored online on their servers.

So my plan:
Erase everything before receiving the new 15 Pro
Install and configure the 27 essential apps
Create a backup, this backup should be very slim

Doing this because when I got the 13 Pro Max I stayed 4-5 hours in Apple store 5th ave and still couldn't restore from my 100GB backup of trash :)) + apps installs are not saved in backups anymore (even on itunes backup), so it will start to download all apps.

I haven't setup a phone as new (other than my work-issued iPhones) since the 3G back in 2009, and I've never had battery issues. It's been a continuous backup -> transfer to every phone since.

I’ve finally received my iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Do I actually have to upgrade my iPhone 14 PM to iOS 17 or can I just do the quick start data transfer right away?
I am on 16.3.1 (just lazy)

Thanks
