Just got home from Best Buy and purchased a 2021 AppleTV 64GB.

Am really enjoying it

On my iPhone I use Soap2Day and 123Movies to stream. All of this is legal of course.

I’m wondering what approach would be best to stream movies via these websites?

Perhaps an iPhone would be required?

I think it would be best and even more convenient if I could use solely the AppleTV to do so without a need for my iPhone.

I have an app on my phone called iWebTV which admittedly isn’t great.

So far, having owned this AppleTV for the past hour I’ve been able to AirPlay movies from 123Movies & Soap2Day without issue using Safari on my iPhone.

However, the movie AirPlayed onto my AppleTV goes away the moment I close the Soap2Day or 123Movies tab in Safari on my iPhone.

That’s where I’m at, am hoping for a better solution.

I have been using iWebTV (I am actually a big fan). As I see it, using the phone makes the interaction with the web browser a lot easier so I don't mind it so much.

Is the need to use a phone your main gripe about iWebTV? What kind of *better* are you looking for?

I think I was just hoping something even easier than the iWebTV app.

I have no issues with the iWebTV app, although I did purchase the full app for $6 a few years ago but recently due to non stop spam incoming to my Apple ID had to change my Apple ID email so now the iWebTV app doesn’t recognize my new email and acts as if I never purchased the app. I believe the iWebTV app still works exactly the same with the exception that when beaming/air playing to the AppleTV it has a watermark that says something along the lines of ‘upgrade to remove ads’

I’m now wondering what the difference is between using iWebTV app and just simply using Safari on iPhone and using airplay to my AppleTV.

I guess my main gripe with both airplay from safari on my iPhone or iweb on my iPhone is that the tv show or movie goes away on my Apple TV the moment I decide to play another video on my iPhone, say if I’m browsing YouTube or even Instagram.

Ideally I’d like to airplay a show to my Apple TV and then continue to waste away on my iPhone with the movie I chose still playing on my Apple TV.

Whether or not soap2day or the like is “perfectly legal” is an open question and I think most would deem it illegal but I won’t get into that though the mods might and eventually lock this thread. To answer your question directly though you can’t airplay one video and then simultaneously watch another on your iPhone at the same time. But there are much better ways to watch movies/shows the way you’re trying to on the Apple TV without the need of airplay or a phone and without dealing with these sites and their constant ads.

Recommend? Not every movie is available on a paid streaming site.
