Hello, my Mid 2014 Book pro is getting quite hot for no obvious reason lately and the battery life is shorten a lot. Is there an app I can monitor and examine the situation and show it to you so you can advice me what the causes might be?

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3), Mid 2014 13' Retina

When the MBP is hot open up Activity Monitor to see what programs are using resources. If it's getting hot and running the battery down quickly then it suggests that the CPU is working really hard. This could be a normal situation (e.g., if you are playing a game or watching 4k video or something) or less normal (some process has gone runaway and is consuming more CPU power than it should).

Things that work the CPU hard: games, 4k video, and encoding task (ripping DVDs/blurays and making video files out of them), flash content, etc.

It will help to narrow down what the issue is if we get a sense of what it is that is causing your Macbook to heat up.
