    Oh my...

    https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/18/...ump-foundation.html?smtyp=cur&smid=tw-nytimes

The attorney general, Barbara Underwood, accused the foundation of “a shocking pattern of illegality” that was “willful and repeated” and included unlawfully coordinating with Mr. Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.

“This amounted to the Trump Foundation functioning as little more than a checkbook to serve Mr. Trump’s business and political interests,” Ms. Underwood said.

I'm of two minds of this.

One side says "yes!" as it will let everyone know how shady Trump and his family can be and to avoid them at all costs.. This would be "The Court of Public Opinion"...

.. The other side of me says that they shouldn't make the deal, as if they settle this, it will mean that the Trump foundation can admit have done nothing wrong, and have no legal record to deny that. They (Trump himself, if not their foundation) have gone for years and years making so many shady and illegal deals, and settled with the authorities, and each time, their deals have included that they admit to having done nothing wrong. That is part of what gives them this belief that they can be above the law. They need to be put in their place and shown and legally proven otherwise.

EDIT: does anyone know who offered the deal? I assume it would be the NY AG, but Trump's lawyers aren't lax on issuing settlement deals themselves.

The AG isn’t settling. There’s nothing in this stipuation that limits what they can do going for forward with the case.

    From the press release:

I think Trump now has his re-election campaign slogan: Trump 2020 - A shocking pattern of illegality

A few points: one, there's an FBI investigation; two, while the Clintons may have used the foundation as part of their own payola scam, their foundation also did significant work in development and health care. The Trump foundation is a tax haven that Trump used to write checks, and is so beset with illegality that it's shutting down.

It's amazing, it's like he drained the swamp in DC so well, he had to bring his own to keep it business as usual.

If they were 'award winning' institutions or 'highly regarded' that would be a good reason to be listed with one's personal branding. Granted with who we are talking about and his long history that would seem to be a stretch.

    Mister Borowitz reports

… In addition to blasting the conditions inside the nation’s prisons, Trump also questioned whether “putting someone in jail for one or two felonies serves any purpose.”
“I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately,” he said. “Prison solves nothing.”

(note: Andy Borowitz is a satirist)

I imagine one would think such a thing, if they were concerned about going to prison themselves.

Back during the election, I always chuckled at that phrase anyway. Drain the swamp. You know what you get when you drain a swamp? It's still a swamp. It stinks, there's decay everywhere. Draining the swamp doesn't mean much when you are the swamp.

It's like giving swamp draining duties to the local alligators. Not only is there still a swamp, but now small dogs and unattended children go missing.

It's like putting Wilson Fisk in charge of cleaning up the criminal element. All he'll do it remove competition and put the rest to work for him

You get Vito in there to use that stuff he normally puts people's feet in before they go in the river; he pours a big load of that stuff in there and then you put up this 40-story thing that says “Individual-1 Tower” In big shiny letters on it.

In other words he wants to be the National Croupier.
