"Special counsel is investigating Trump for possible obstruction of justice, officials say" - Washington Post

Happy birthday, Mr. Trump. On behalf of (a large chunk of) the nation (and world), thank you for the gift of firing Comey. Really, that was unexpected and unwanted -- but now? Wow. Really, I'd say you shouldn't have... but maybe you should.

Oh, and thanks for yesterday's "trial balloon" or whatever it was about the "fire Mueller idea." Pure genius. And thanks to Sessions, as well. Don't be so shy, sir. All those variations of "I can't recall" and that "I Can't Believe It's Not Executive Privilege" you slathered on? Fantastic. Kudos. Author, author. (Even if this case goes nowhere)

Brace yourselves for a chorus of "lock her up."

Considering how mum they were, this could be interesting. During that testimony, for me, the most telling element was when McCain asked Coats questions. The two know each other and Coats noticeably struggled with eye contact while McCain seemed to be dressing him down. I sensed shame. Did I say interesting? Maybe damning.

Good thing he's careful with his words, clear with his thoughts and isn't prone to blurting out thoughts generally best kept to one's self.

Tweet on, Mr. Trump, a nation turns its weary eyes to you.

I would have expected you to at least pretend to be bipartisan instead of trying to protect your Dear Leader Trump.

Both are newsworthy. Funny how it bothers you in this instance but not when Trump does his parlor tricks

W/ respect to the manual relocation of your post, first time I got to stick 2 likes on one post.

Yes that chorus will ramp up before long, no matter its logarithmically increasing irrelevance.

Why anyone is surprised if there's a look into obstruction of justice issues, I don't get.

Trump practically dared that on by firing Comey and then remarking on it AT ALL thereafter. Wouldn't life have been simpler just to let Comey's work conclude and then smear it if he didn't like it? If not, then... why not? would be the next line of inquiry. Now he's got a pit bull and a couple of criminal law specialists shining a light at whatever pops into their path. Someone better take his phone away as a matter of his self defense, or else divert his Tweets through a pre-sending filter by his lawyers, personal or otherwise.

Happy Flag Day to the House of Representatives and the Senate. Take your recess now, you're going to have needed it.

I guess Mueller is the next to be fired. Trump doesn't like it when people aren't loyal to his throne.

The Russian connection never went away, and its never going to go away until Trump and his admin( aka swamp creatures) are out of the WH.

He should have just left well enough alone, but no, he had to play at asinine reality TV-like games and now he's under investigation. Tisk. Tisk. Hope Mueller nails his ass to the wall.

Good, they should look into it, gives the Dems one less avenue to go down when this whole things over and Trump is still president.

The Liz giveth and the Liz taketh away. And I almost got away with it, too. </TwirlsMoustache>

See quote below! Excellent use of logarithmically.

Part of my lunchtime conversation with my conservative friend (posted in another thread) was demonstrating how complicated it is to want Trump out (at this admittedly early point) even though it means policies that I'm not aligned with may have a better chance of passage and that it probably would benefit the conservative agenda. Especially if in time to get some stuff done before 2018 comes around. That election seems like a real wild card hangover waiting to happen no matter which way trends lean.

    Surprised? Nah.

Relieved? Yes, even though this "leak" will turn up the heat on that clarion call for counter-investigation. Even if it does, as long as it's kept separate I don't see that as an issue.

Practically? PRACTICALLY? Nah. Self-destructive behavior, maybe. Or testing boundaries... without a net. I simply think he's never learned to appreciate that the currency of Washington power isn't like New York's (whether real estate, City Hall, Wall St.). The currency here is more like parchment than cash and he can't seem to adjust. As such, the "net" he'd need is the support of Republicans who are burned out defending him and some who may feel burned by being forced to sign that "mean" bill, and so on. He'll need them. That makes his position more tenuous as a result of how his behaviors have had omnidirectional "logarithmic" effects -- to his party, to Independents, to moderates, to our allies...

Yeah, I put that for you, actually. You're the most adorably reliable troll I've encountered. I mean that in a good way. Goodish.

Maybe, but maybe not. Everybody must be warning him it's suicide. Sure, that'll normally ensure he "doubles down" just to prove he's impervious or something but I expect he'll be getting three scoops of ice cream every day, with "special sprinkles" made of crushed and food-colored Xanax.

I've been pondering this for a while. It would be superbly ironic if Trump was not personally colluding with Russia (it's possible), but his paranoia causes him to obstruct the investigation, which is an impeachable offense.

I'm wondering what realistically could be discovered that would lead to charges/articles of impeachment. This was a private conversation between Comey and Trump (as far as we know). Wondering what (if anything) is going to come out of this. Guess we'll see.

Before I'm immediately lambasted as a Trump shill, I did not vote or campaign for the man.

That said, after the terrible events that happened today, and the sort of rhetoric that's been used in the past six months, I can't be the only to understand what is going to happen in this country if he is impeached. I'm not suggesting that he shouldn't be if he broke the law, precisely the opposite, simply saying that as far as his most ardent supporters are concerned, they aren't likely to care particularly for that justification.
