FLASHBACK: Barack Obama in 2007 saying he would amend NAFTA to protect U.S. workers:

Who'd have thought that Donald Trump would be delivering on a Barack Obama campaign promise?

The chance Trump has read either of them is near zero - just like it's clear he hasn't read the Iran deal. I doubt he could reel off 4 bullet points.

At this point he'll sign anything Ryan puts under his nose.

That he is in a pretty weak negotiating spot because he doesn't even know what is in the agreements. Or at least that's the point I got from that post.

Do you think that Obama has read them?

My wife and I have some money that we'd like to invest, but this kind of uncertainty is keeping me from jumping whole hog into the market. I want to give it some time to see how trump's policies affect the economy/trade before I can feel confident in risking my investment. I wonder how many other people are feeling the same way.

President Trump's Senior Advisor Jared Kushner is currently jetting to Calgary to speak to Canada's Socialist Prime Minister and his fall-in-line cabinet.

Some guy posted a video of Scalia in a thread in this section going on about how America is great because of separation of powers, so if the executive branch is just a puppet for the legislative branch then I assume that Scalia would say that this is bad.

(not that I am saying Trump is a puppet. I'm not sure if he's a good actor and a puppet, or just a regular narcissist).

sorta like Pelosi and the Obamafail program where we have to pass it to see what's in it?

    Someone has to...

I disagree. I think he's given them the same scrutiny at Nancy Pelosi does with Congressional bills.

Yes. Obviously. There have been many questions on all three over years at press briefings, and his answers were always detailed and nuanced.

You can disagree with Obama, but you can't argue that he's not a man who clearly does his homework.

Trump's answers on pretty much every topic he's asked about suggests he doesn't even follow the debate, nevermind do detailed research.

I think President Trump should hand-over the Iran file, to Israel.

Well Israel likely is in the process of severing intelligence sharing with the US, given the probability Trump/his circle will pass it to Russia (and therefore Iran).

I don't know how it's reported in the US, but the rest of the world is currently putting intelligence firewalls up, because the US is now viewed as compromised.

He certainly never read the whole document, that would be a foolish assumption. They barely read treaties which are just a few pages long. They receive detailed briefings, and yes Obama certainly did his homework, but there is no way that he spent time reading the DRAFT of a thousand pages long legal document.

One's an articulate lawyer, the other is a businessman that doesn't need a staff of assistants working to determine that the results of NAFTA and potential results of TPP suck for the American Job Seeker.

I wasn't suggesting he sat reading a 3 foot high document, but that he was clearly briefed, thoroughly, on every point, and understood the nuance.

Truthfully, US intelligence over the last decade has been nothing short of suspect, so I'm not sure of what would/could be compromised.

Giving control to Israel would certainly send a clear message to the Middle East - as Joe Biden has said many times in the past "Israel won't get everything they've asked for but they will get everything they need" - sounds like the plan to me.

Sweet. Trump has now completed his only policy proposals I can get behind. Now there is nothing left but dread.

Can anybody explain to me what they think Donald Trump is going to ask for when he tries to "renegotiate" NAFTA? Because there simply isn't a clause in there that says we have to ship jobs to Mexico (or Canada.)

Putting large tariffs on goods imported from NAFTA countries is going to do one thing and one thing only - raise prices for US consumers. On everything from avocados to alternators. And Mexico and Canada will doubtless raise their tariffs in response. Meaning that US agricultural and manufacturing jobs will decline because Mexicans and Canadians can't afford to buy as much of them.

    Read more about NAFTA here.

You can take advantage of volatility. The market has factored much of what Trump has already said.

Think of it this way: trump want us to win every deal in every way (which doesn't usually happen in business). Remember, we are only seeing our grievances in the news. We don't talk about the losses to the Mexican economy because who cares about them.

Why would we care about Mexican economy? That's the job of the Mexican government.
