It's almost as though General Jack D Ripper has a book to sell.

Haven't the time or battery life to investigate further right now, but I wouldn't read too much into a reworking of a Russia Today story.

Old generals love to war-game. See "A History of the Third World War" by General Sir John Hackett. Don't worry, it will all end happily ever after.

It's usually best avoided and, in one form or another, effects will be global.

....Do you not understand what nuclear fallout is? These bombs are orders of magnitude larger than in WWII.

I don't believe that it will happen either, but if anyone is dumb enough to use them everyone will suffer. That is what the previous posters were saying.

I still don't see the issue, we have no control over such things.

@jkcerda isn't interested in serious discussion unless it involves guns. He's likely off looking for nuclear end of the world memes.

please, what is "serious" about this discussion? some clown yaps about a "possible" scenario where we end up taking most of the world out with nukes? come'on, I have Reynolds Alum foil on sale.

I'm not buying into the premise of this thread (though as I've outlined numerous times in various threads, the Clinton administration in Syria is very likely to escalate tensions with Russia to the point where shots are fired in "retaliation"), but I was just taking issue with your characterization of the end result of modern nukes, whether you were jesting or not.

I'm sorry. If your boy didn't shoot himself in the foot several times a day, I'd have to post serious business.

It is easy, and tempting, and intellectually lazy to see Russia reverting to the comfortable (to us) role of inevitable ad implacable enemy.

Now, not only do I not think that a nuclear war with Russia in 2017 is 'entirely plausible', I don't even think that a 'conventional' war with Russia in 2017 is 'entirely plausible'.

In fact, to my mind, the only kind of conflict with Russia (in 2017) that has any sort of plausibility whatsoever is some sort of proxy conflict, which is what we had for much of the Cold War.
