An interesting article with some appalling statistics that confirms what many already may know about British loutishness abroad:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/24/world/europe/24crete.html?em

Must be all that soggy climate repression.

In all fairness, they really should mention the German tendency towards militant nudism.

While in Paris i was turned away from more then one pub because they thought i was British.

When asked why I was told that the British start too many fights...

the key word here is 'militant'

Besides this is not the german olympic swim team we're talking about here. This is the hairy arsed and bockedy-hole variety.

I went to the Netherlands this summer and not a resort, so you can't pin any of this on me.

Why not ban ugly people from going outside so we don't have to look at their minging faces?

I don't see why children should be shielded from nudity, bodies are just bodies, skin is just skin.

I find this all rather ironic, given the disdain you Brits have for American tourists. :)

It's the locals fault for catering to the Brits in the first place. They desperately wanted the British Pound so they sold them sausage 'n' chips, cheap lager and put up with the consequential rowdy behaviour.

    Only the old?

You should come to the UK and see some of the young nude guys that hang out in the gym change rooms… see the ravages of binge drinking and too many pies.
    Not a pretty sight.

Why are only beautiful young bodies allowed to be naked?

From which you changed the title for some reason.

"Some Britons Too Unruly for Resorts in Europe"

    Not 'Britons too unruly'

    SOME of them.

"in a 12-month period in 2006 and 2007, 602 Britons were hospitalized and 28 raped in Greece, and that 1,591 died in Spain and 2,032 were arrested there."

In 2007 there were 13.9 MILLION UK tourists visiting Spain ( http://www.statistics.gov.uk/downloads/theme_transport/mq6-q1-2008.pdf ) and 2.4 million visited Greece.

0.014% of Spanish visits resulted in an arrest.

That means 99.986% of British tourists in Spain in 2007 were NOT arrested.

I know that interntionally, the UK's two national sports are considered to be binge drinking and casual violence ( and infact, I'd probably agree ) - but let's have just a tiny bit of perspective here:

The HUGE, MASSIVE, MONUMENTALLY overwhelming majority of British tourists do not cause trouble. Even 'some' is frankly, a intentionally inflammatory choice of word.

Sorry to rant like this - but yes - there are a minority of Brits who behave like utter cave-men and women. The majority of us try to be polite, contribute to the local economy, and enjoy ourselves like grown ups - and I refuse to be tarred with the same brush as the brainless morons who go to Magaluf etc. to get drunk and get laid.

    Exactly.
But why let accuracy get in the way of a cheap sensationalist headline?

Thanks for saving me the bother of doing that myself.

Although, I do frown upon a lot of the people that go to places like Spain just to buy fish and chips and get drunk. Come to think of it, I've not had fish and chips (what a greasy stereotype) for about 2 years. Eeek.

The corresponding BBC article went to clarify that the deaths in Spain aren't broken down by age. Since the retirement mecca of many Brits is now known as Marbella, I'll bet a good number of those deaths are pensioners.

At any rate, I'd much rather deal with the naked backside of a fit 80 year old Austrian than the backside of a vomiting, obese 20 year old brit with an equally obese tarted up girlfriend.

Oh us Brits are horrible abroad. We used to get that whole "oh they're British" shunning that some, more popular, holiday destinations had until we started visiting the lesser known areas.
Brit+Cheap booze+party atmosphere is asking for trouble :D

Not really. You're not allowed to walk around town in the nip, why should a resort that allows the same public range be any different? If it was isolated to over 18's then fine (which there are). Just as the resorts I used to visit would only allow families.

I don't see why nudity should be outlawed *anywhere*, be it in town on the beach or wherever, I also don't see why whether someone is over 18 or not should have any impact on their allowed exposure to nudity, sex perhaps but nudity is innocent, anyone who thinks otherwise is in my view deluded.

A stunning lack of perspective, Mord. I know the point you're making but you have to acknowledge other factors that make up society.
