I have an ipod touch (2nd gen) and decided to test different browser from the app store against safari and here is what i found. (times are in seconds)

gizmodo mobile - 4.241
gizmodo full - 36
phonedog - 37.652

opera mini:
macrumors - 12.692
forums - 6.101
gizmodo mobile - 2.747
gizmodo full - 12.903
phonedog - 14.665
google search for ipod touch - 2.76

*others tested: mercury and icab but were much slower

After testing I have found that while opera loads everything faster sometimes the layouts are a little off, also the small text and no multitouch really detract from the experience.

If i would switch from safari I would definitely use perfect web browser because of the speed and the fact that it is slightly easier to use.

please leave some comments and tests of other web browser below

Out of curiosity, what internet connection do you have? Google here takes less than 2 seconds to load w/ Safari...

Interesting tests.

Well here are my results from speedtest.
Download: 4018 kbps
Upload: 475 kbps
Ping: 245 ms
it ok speed but I think it is the touch's processor cause on my friends 3gs wifi browsing is a lot faster

interesting to see a speed comparison. it may not be as fast as the others, but safari is good enough for me unless i need a specific feature that is found elsewhere.
