I realize he's joking, but it's about the worst time to say something like that.

I'd have to say this ranks pretty low on the list of Bush's offenses.

Even if you hate Bush, he has a sense of humor. He was obviously just joking. Just imagine him saying that and doing his little shoulder laugh, you're looking too much into this.

I wonder how much joke is really in that remark? He certainly could not get reelected again, notwithstanding the laws against two-terms. Remember, this administration believes that government first resides with the executive branch. They also believe, the other two branches participate at the President's discretion. The problem they have is, few others agree with them. The fact that the Constitution does not either is of little concern. Afterall, by their way of thinking, the law is just a 'guideline', and can be ignored when it gets in the way. I can think of too many dark scenarios of how these people could try to remain in power. I just pray they do not attempt it.

More likely that they'd try to take advantage of an external attack in order to prolong their stay in power.

He doesn't have as good a sense a humor as he thinks he does. This is hardly the first time he's said something of questionable appropriateness believing it to be funny.

If a majority of your audience is scared at even the implication you're being serious, it's not that funny.

I was watching part of the speech, and he made a couple of comments he obviously thought were funny that no one else seemed to.

There's a huge difference between the two men. Putin is a thug, but he's a necessary bastard. Russia as it is would fall apart without a thug in command. Therefore Putin staying in power is actually a good thing, despite how it completely offends us as Westerners.

Bush staying in power however has absolutely no advantages for anyone other than Bush. Well, apart from arms dealers anyway....

If he was really "like Hitler" or the "Anti-Christ" then that would be the next step. Taking complete control like Chavez in Venezuela or Hitler in Germany.
    1. take free speech away
    2. take all guns(no way to protect against a corrupt govt, see nazi germany)
    3. get rid of any opposition(like Chavez, puts those who oppose him in prison)
    etc

You don't have to spread misinformation about Chavez to make your point.

Chavez didn't throw the opposition parties in jail. The opposition parties have boycotted the elections. Chavez has also never declared himself president for life. He just got rid of term limits. If you have a problem with Venezuela, bring it up with the opposition parties that refuse to run, or with the Venezuelan people who seem to love him.

You already have a corrupt government. What good did having a handgun do against that?

He threw my friends parents in jail. They were both teachers. I should have him come on here and talk to you.

Do you have anything that isn't anecdotal evidence to back up your claim?

We have no idea why your friends parents were thrown in jail. It could have been for any number of reasons.

Yes, you should. I think more people need to know that Chavez isn't a good guy either. If a leader gets rid of term limits, it should be obvious what the intention is.
