image.png image.png You know what grinds my gears, the "other guy" retort. It's getting so old. On Facebook, my aunt posted a meme about trump cheating on his wives and some other crap he did. The response from someone "bill Clinton was worse". Second response to a new thread here: yeah but Hillary, Obama and Bush did the same thing. I don't mind if during an argument you throw in the hypocrisy line IN ADDITION to actually responding to whatever the other person said but if "but the other guy" is your only response....well now, that just grinds my gears.

It grinds my gears if you get very angry over something a one person is doing, when you didn't care if the previous person, or multiple people, did it.

You know what really grinds my gears, the amount of people that instead of providing informed respsonses on actual topics of discussion, would rather play billy big bol***ks through mud slinging, and making up silly words and assumptions.

<-- Guilty as charged :p In fact, I would say the PRSI forum is pretty much predicated on it.

I'll tell you what. One day when a sister of mine and I were arguing on the front steps of our house about whose turn it was to set the table for dinner, and the argument held high stakes for us since we were many and getting the table set was a chore, one of our brothers sidled up the steps and stole the metal key required to tighten the clamps on roller skates of that era. Yeah. One of us was going to have to set the table, big deal. Meanwhile both of us needed that damn key.

I think about that every time the country gets embroiled in some massive "yeah but the other guy" gig, no matter how short. It's interesting to note the timeframe of such discussions and then go back later on and read newspapers on page 17 or 23 and see what mischief was achieved by the movers and shakers of power levers during that timeframe. Interesting, but not instructive I guess since we keep doing it.

What grinds my gears is Americans and other Western Democracies don't realize most politicians are virtually the same. They want Fame, power and Re-electable stature! They really don't give a darn about you!

You got it backwards, bud. It would be like if someone were quiet and didn't care that Bush went to war(s), and then started jumping all over Obama for going to war.

Or worse when someone here (and by someone, I mean a lot of people), post something like "When Bush spied on Americans, it was wrong, but when Obama does it, its ok" Who the hell said it was ok?

Just cause you vote for someone, doesn't mean you agree with every single thing they stand for.

I mean anything. I read something like "but it was ok when Obama did" three times already today. Again, says who? Who said all the same people who voted for him the first time, voted for him the second time? Who said that those who did vote again, thought other issues were more important or that the other guy was even worse?

There is a guy I know who is, by any normal standard, a bit of a mess. His house is literally falling down around him, looking like a cross between a crackhouse and an episode of "Hoarders." He's probably at least a borderline alcoholic. Over the years he's wasted hundreds of thousands of dollars on collections of essentially worthless junk, being saved numerous times from bankruptcy only by the largesse of his elderly parents. He spent six years in college; most of which was spent amassing a beer-can collection and a stereo system, paid for with money he earned delivering pizzas while the rest of us were learning accounting or finite element analysis.

And yet to listen to this guy talk - you'd think he was paragon of virtue. He rails about one acquaintance for his smoking habit. Another guy because of his weight or fondness for visiting a local casino. The other night I heard him speak quite viciously about different people from the Commissioner of Baseball to (actor) David Schwimmer. (Since Mr Schwimmer's post-Friends career has not included roles in superhero movies, this guy was under the impression he had not worked since 2003.)

Whenever you hear someone complaining about other people; just remember their words usually say a lot more about them than the person they are criticizing. The obese, toothless hillbilly ranting about Barack Obama. Anything that comes out of Donald Trump's mouth. etc. etc. And remember the ever-reliable

What grinds my gears is when my girl decides to make me a Peanut butter and Jelly sandwich with Multigrain wheat bread, then gets mad at me for giving her a dirty look. The only bread that deserves to be ate with PB&J is white Wonder bread. I'm for a healthier diet, but some things you don't freaking change.

Does it even matter? But off the top of my head: gun rights or control, economy, jobs, taxes, education, voters rights, wall street regulation, BLM or BLDM, police brutality, gay rights, women's rights, abortion, affirmative action, drugs, global climate change, nuclear weapons, other environmental concerns, immigration, torture, Guantanamo Bay, religious issues, health care, food stamps, welfare, social security, high speed rail, genetically modified foods....

The issue is that that is not what anti obamaites refer to on here

They tend to refer to his race instead.

Maybe that should be a rule for actual candidate debates as the primary season wears on. They all run out of fresh rebuttals to each other's set speeches and so start hammering on who voted for what amendment and who skipped which vote altogether. They fall just short of outright calling each other hypocrites. Maybe in the 2016 primaries they won't even fall short of it in another month or so.

    "The" post?

Are you saying you've genuinely never noticed any of the discussion referring to Obama as a Muslim?

Unless there's a contextual reason, of course. For example, what was different in 1986 when Reagan wanted amnesty for illegals compared to 2014 when conservatives lambasted Obama for wanting amnesty for illegals? I don't recall Reagan being a bleeding heart liberal or anything remotely like that back in the day but I suspect he'd be denounced as one nowadays...
