C'était un rendez-vous, by Claude Lelouch.

(in English, it means "It was a rendezvous".)

Translation of the disclaimer at the beginning: "The movie you are about to see has been done without any special effects or framerate acceleration"

Filmed on a Mercedes 450SEL (with a 6.9L engine!) in the streets of Paris. The sound was later dubbed with a Ferrari 275.

It's a fantastic film. I've only seen it once but I keep meaning to get it on DVD.

I remember walking many of those streets.

I have mixed feelings about it... I don't care what people do to endanger their own lives, but I loathe people who threaten the lives of other people for stupid stunts...

On the other hand it is mildly entertaining.

I totally agree. The fact that I posted it, didn't mean that I liked or admired the director for what he has done in this case.

    However...

:::::::Spoiler in white text, read only after watching it::::::

Truth be said, the director, who was also driving the car, had people posted at some specially dangerous places with walkie-talkies so he could know if he could go.

1976. The Mercedes was more expensive than some Rolls, at the time...

Only in one place, and AFAIK they discovered that the walkie-talkies didn't work when they tried to use them, so they wouldn't have helped. He also always claims that it was an unnamed F1 driver racing.

I'm pretty sure there was a touch of framerate acceleration there...

Some time ago on the french TV they took Lelouch for the same ride, in a sort of making of. During the drive, he talks about the film, and there were more than one assistants. Where you're correct, however, is that one of them had problems with his walkie-talkie. Also, among all the theories managed by the police was that the driver was a former F1 driver.

It was also shown on Top Gear a couple of seasons ago.

When's it my turn? Could even do a comparison in my Mini ONE. :D
