    From the article:
"California state legislators on Tuesday advanced a bill that would make the entire state a sanctuary for undocumented immigrants, in defiance of President Trump’s stated plans to deport millions of people.

The Senate Public Safety Committee approved the California Values Act on a party-line vote Tuesday morning. The measure now moves to the floor of the state Senate, where Democrats control a super majority."

CA already is a sanctuary state for all practical purposes:

    And have for decades.

I think it's fair to say that our Hispanic and Asian street gangs are outperforming our black street gangs. That's because we welcome diversity and give them the tools they need to succeed.

By all means if California wants to take all the illegals (criminals or not), they are more than welcome to have them. Maybe Meryl Streep and Madona will take a few in.

States don't get to define immigration policy. This will not end well for California lawmakers.

California will win this fight. A sizable chunk of those undocumented immigrants are migrant farm workers. After the price of fruits and veggies increases 5 times, people will be demanding Trump take down his wall.

I'm all for deporting criminals and those who leaches off society. I have no problem with illegals who are beneficial to society. Yeah, they're being taken advantage of, but for them, it's a step up from their life in the old country.

CA will just increase the price 20% on fruits and vegetables sold outside the state because that’s how we solve problems now. This will initially cause outrage until people outside the state realize pizza is not a vegetable and therefor they will not be impacted.

Sounds good, and hopefully it can be a start to a peaceful break up of the United States. We've gone past the point of no return and need to amend the constitution to allow states a peaceful way out otherwise things like this will eventually lead to a violent confrontation.

A 20% increase in fruits and veggie prices won't bother Americans enough to affect changes. But a 500% increase! Break out the torches and pitchforks; it's tar and feathering time.

Turn them over to the states, each state has a share of the federal government, my proposal would be that federal lands in each state go back to the state (something that Republicans are currently supporting anyway) also each state would take on a portion of the federal debt equal to the percentage of the US population living in that state at the time of independence. The taking on debt could be seen as payment for the land.

Well, think about this.... If California leaves, so too does it's 55 electoral votes. The Dems will never win another election again! :D

Hopefully Colorado can follow California's lead. Followed by Mass, NJ, NY, and so on.

Failing that, perhaps we could offer to let TX, MS, LA, AL, etc., secede. The rest of the nation could lose the boat anchor most of those states are.

If California left other states would follow, the shape of the US if anything was left would be anyone's guess.

There needs to be balance in the country. Too much left leads to Communism, and too right leads to Facism. It you let the right get too comfortable, they will start reverting back to racism, xenophobia, and so on.

Oddly enough, the proposed bill has nothing to do with policy, only with expenditures for immigration enforcement.

    From the fine article:
... would prohibit state and local law enforcement agencies from spending money to enforce federal immigration laws. The measure would also ban immigration enforcement in state schools, health facilities and courthouses.

The Federal government is still free to enforce immigration policy itself, fund it itself, and do everything else regarding immigration it already does. It is not free, however, to dictate to a State how a State will spend its own tax revenues (see 10th Amendment). In other words, it comes down to States' Rights. Imagine that.

You should know by now that when it comes to Republicans states rights only matter when the federal government is controlled by the Democrats.
