California just rolled out Digital COVID-19 Vaccine Record QR code. This is not a digital vaccine passport. It's just a QR code used to augment CDC's COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card.

Your name, birthday, and phone number or email will be verified against California Immunization Registry. If they match, you will get a text message or an email to retrieve the QR code from their website.

With iOS 15, you can use the Camera or Code Scanner Control Center control to scan the QR code and enter the details into Health app.

The result is fairly innocuous, merely duplicating the information from the CDC card, minus any identifying information such as your name and birthdate. Probably not something that would be accepted at the airport.

Kaiser healthcare also updates Apple Health (at least in Southern CA) if the have your vaccination card on file, which you can send a picture of through an "e-visit" on the KP app if you didn't get vaccinated at a KP hospital.

Took about a week and my vaccination record appeared in Apple Health automatically since I have my Kaiser account linked. Actually shows my immunization record with Flu shots too.

Pretty useless if it doesn‘t show your name and birthdate anywhere, since that‘s what makes these digital passes a legit certificate of immunization in my country. Probably still need to use that Covid app to use the digital certificate.

A COVID app for California?

I‘m from germany and the EU has a certificate that enables easy travel by just having to show that certificate for your immunization (instead of carrying papers around), which can be scanned in via dedicated apps to quickly verify their authenticity.

The twist is that only works when you show the QR code and they also showcase your name and birthdate at a glance (you also need to show your ID).

The Health app integration can‘t be used as proof of immunization and is just a novelty feature.

The uk have a vaccination passport scheme. We get two codes. One is a status for uk events, the other has vaccination details for international travel

Of course agreement is still needed internationally. Good to see a single eu scheme

In the us is there a plan for a federal scheme for international use?

I tried this just now with the EU certificate I got from my vaccinations. The QR code shows as unreadable in my camera app. I wonder if the EU variant is not supported yet or if I‘m doing something wrong.

It does show both of this at this point. It also provides signature verification to ensure the data was not changed since it was created.

I beg to differ with that thought. Exposure notifications were kind of approached the same previously and there have been changes made to the framework since California utilized immunization records in June.

Hawai'is can import too, but it's effectively useless as everywhere wants to scan the QR code to verify with the Commonpass verifier app. What use is this?

After about 100 clicks, I can find the QR code on the Health app.. Why can I not put it on the home screen, or easy way to get it?

It feels like such a huge oversight by Apple.

That add to wallet is enabled in 15.1 beta. Works for Cali Vaxx
