I have recently purchased a new Camcorder (Panasonic SD900) to replace my older Panasonic NV38DS (Mini DV Tapes). I am a new convert to Apple having changed to an iMac just under a year ago. I have two problems

1) My New SD900 shoots in 1080/50p and the picture is extremely good. However I cannot download my footage onto iMovie11 for editing. I am told Apple does not offer any support for 1080/50p. Is this policy likely to change ? (perhaps with the new Mountain Lion OS).

2) Having accumulated a number of DV Mini tapes with my older Panasonic NV-DS38 Camcorder I thought I would have a first attempt at editing them on iMovie11. However I cannot seem to get the iMac 21.5 (OSX Lion) to recognize the Camcorder.

So it seems that I am unable to edit either old or new. Any help with either would be welcome.

For the DV tapes, how are you connecting the camcorder to your Mac? You need to use a Firewire cable and set the camcorder to the playback setting.

If this is your Panasonic, the Camera Section>Shutter Speed>Motion Image seems to indicate that it can record at 25P which iMovie should recognise.

Also, this article from Apple indicates that you can set the camcorder to an iFrame format which iMovie should recognise.
