Also, Apple is no longer signing iOS 10, meaning you cannot downgrade now, period. I’m sorry. We are all hoping that they get their act together with iOS 11 soon.

I hear there’s an update coming this week, so hold tight!

Since Apple wants iPads to be laptop replacements, maybe iOS devices should be "fixable" without the use of iTunes.

Some will describe having a MacBook with a iTunes and an iPhone t
as a "ecosystem", I see it as a dependency.

Almost every single situation is fixable without a computer. Only recovery mode requires iTunes. But you can erase all settings and contents ie a restore, on the device itself. Downgrading is not “recommended” by Apple so obviously they are not going to include a way to do that without a computer.

apple has never told me personally what it wants, but seems to me that the ipad is a laptop alternative, not a replacement; hence, they make both things. plus what mirollin91 said.

You don't want to downgrade, as you need the security updates, if nothing else.

The fact Apple actually bothers to support their ultra-mobile devices for years is the number one reason to buy Apple devices (far from the only reason, but most devices get devices way too late, not at all, and only for short periods).

I've not run iOS 11 on 6 class hardware (I've got a 6s), but I doubt it can be THAT bad. I mean my iPad 2 runs iOS 9 okay, and I'm sure way way worse than a 6 runs 11.

I'm running iOS 11.0.2 on my lowly iPhone 6 16 GB and am very pleased with performance, stability and battery life. Plus I am able to take of advantage of most of the new iOS 11 features including the much appreciated security fixes. I did a full ipsw update via iTunes so that may have helped.

The 6s runs iOS 11 beautifully. I have no complaints or problems.
