I installed a WRT400N router via my PC several months back and used an adapter to utilize the Dual Band, Wireless N network. The product worked very well on my PC.

I recently bought a 27" iMac. It easily connected to the 2.4 Ghz Wireless N network. Performance and reliability are both good. However, I cannot see the 5Ghz network listed as an available network. Video streaming is not as good without the 5Ghz network.

Supposedly the 27" iMac (with built in wireless N) can achieve the Dual Band connectivity with Airport Extreme...but I do not want to spend money to replace a perfectly good router.

Does anyone know how I can connect achieve wireless N connectivity on the 5Ghz band?

    Thanks.

Is the SSID hidden on the 5GHz network or something?

The airport cards in the Mac definitely support 5 Ghz, they have supported that for years. I can't imagine what it could be unless there's some incompatibility with the router. It does work fine for me on Airport Extreme, though I have not tried with other routers.

Last night I downloaded and installed the lastest software updates for the router. When I went back to my iMac, I could now see the 5Ghz network. It connected and worked fine. Streaming 1080p videos worked like a charm.

    Thanks for the reply.
