I have a macbook, but my brother has a Windows desktop computer. If I got the Mac version of Call of Duty 4 and he has the windows version, will we be able to play with each other cross platform over LAN?

Yes you can, but if it is not a new macbook with the 9400M, you will not have good graphics at all, and it may not even start.
