Hi,
Couple of weeks ago I bought a new 27 inch imac (2012) with mini display port. Also I was using 2009 i mac with Mini DVI port. Is it possible to use my 2009 i mac as a second monitor (Dual monitor setup) with my new i mac? Please help me to solve this issue.

Is the most recent iMac a refurbished model from 2 years ago that you are referring to? All iMacs as of May last year use Thunderbolt instead of minidisplay.

If your 2009 iMac is a 27 inch model, then yes. If not, then no.

Thunderbolt ports are also mini-displayport ports.

Oh yeah, you can use Thunderbolt iMac as the primary driver, but not the secondary unless the primary has Thunderbolt, right?

Yes primary one has the Thunder bolt. But Secondary one(2009 27" i mac has the mini DVI port)
What sort of hardware (Adapter + cables) I need to use for this?

That's a 24" model. Note the metal frame around the glass. The 21.5" and 27" have glass all the way to the edge. They do look nice together though.
