Can new MBP 17' run the 30" ACD on battery rather than plugged into electric socket?

My MBP is attached to the 30" display with the dual link set-up. No problem. I tried unhooking the magsafe connector to the electricity source and the display disconnected, that is it went off. Will my computer run the external display when on battery mode and disconnected from electricity source?

Your MBP will stay on and continue active output to an external monitor if unpluged from magsafe if the lid is up on the MBP.

If the lid is down, the computer will go into sleep. You can change this behavior using something like InsomniaX.
