My iMac is not showing up on Find My.

I have signed out of iCloud, then back in. I have signed out of everything, and back in.

I have turned Find My off, and on, and it still isn't showing on Find My.

It shows as on, everywhere on my iMac, except for settings/devices/my iMac, where it shows as off.

I literally do not know what else to do?

Can someone please help?

Thank you.

location on for home app?
Yes, bud.

Everything is on.

i even booted into safe mode earlier, and used disk utility to check all drives/mounts.

I literally have no idea what else to do?

I’ll try reinstalling MacOS again, without losing data.

Any suggestions?

The weird thing is, find my and location services are all turned on. However, when viewing my iMac in my iCloud device list, it states it’s off.

It’s paired with my Apple ID, but in the list of devices (from any of my devices) it shows as Find My is off.

It’s so frustrating, I just want to take a hammer to it!

one more lol

maybe calling Apple Support before reinstalling?
Ok, so I have now reinstalled macOS Tahoe.

And it's still not working!

Could it be fundamentally broken?

I think there must be something glitching/conflicting, because Find My is toggled on, Location Services are ALL on, and I have just reinstalled the OS.

It's probably a new bug that will be corrected in a future version of Tahoe. That's why I always wait until version XX.3.1 of anything before upgrading. Don't want to deal with stuff like that.

How comes my other two Macs are ok?

And all of my other devices?

Are your other two Macs exactly identical to the one having the problem? Or do they have different silicone, processors, graphics, memory, etc.? In my experience with Macs, (I go back all the way to the Apple IIe) a lot of bugs show up on certain hardware configurations while others have no problems.

Maybe take it the genius bar of an Apple Store if there's one close by? I know it's a pain to lug an iMac around, but if they can't figure out the problem, at least they will be able to officially document it.

I suppose not ignoring the obvious, you are absolutely sure it's connected to the same Apple account as all the other devices? And it does have your name at the top of system settings? Just checking

You say the machine itself says it's turned off. That's a big clue isn't it.

So the thing to check is the activation lock.
I don't have Tahoe yet but usually you go to the Apple logo>'About this' Mac and 'more info' but in recent OS you must hold down the 'option key' as you click in order to get the advanced menu.
Then in 'system report' > 'hardware overview' you should see 'activation lock status' and that should read 'enabled'.
If it doesn't, usually the advice is to sign out of icloud, reboot, sign in but you've done all that and even reinstalled so if that isn't enabled then that's your problem.
Find my can't work if activation lock is disabled
So if the activation lock is off, find the serial number and check that it gives something there that looks right.
It should be in system settings under general
If it's blank or 000 or says 'unavailable' then the activation lock won't switch on
If the serial number is right and the activation lock is disabled there are really only 2 possibilites:
1. It isn't signed into the same Apple account even though you think it is.
2.The Mac’s secure token that ties it to the Apple ID failed to generate- hardware problem

Sometimes, if you have had the machine repaired- logic board for example- then it might have a mismatched serial number.
But if the activation lock is off and you can 't get it to turn on then you have a hardware problem and you've got to take it to Apple to sort it out. That's about as far as I go.
Good luck

Thank you.

As you can see here, it's contradicting itself.

I have just been on the phone with technical support/senior, and we performed all of the diagnostics.

I downloaded and installed Capture_Data app, which "scans" my Mac.

This was all sent to senior engineers, and the senior tech is assuring me that this is going to be sorted. He said that either the issue is at their end, and it will be rectified, or the engineers will instruct of any further actions to take on my end.

The senior tech is maintaining connection with me, until the issue is resolved.

He said that the Activation Lock Status: Disabled is a symptom of the issue.

He assured me that this is not a hardware issue, which gives me an element of confidence.

Thank you for your help.

Great that it's not a hardware issue and it managed to at least give you a symptom.
Good luck.

10/10 the activation lock must be on in order to use find my.

My MBP has all those settings on.

Are you using a VPN? When I have issues like yours (not necessarily FindMy) it's usually the VPN blocking stuff. Just putting out there for you. Hopefully you'll get it sorted there's nothing more frustrating than something that should 'just work' and it doesn't.
