After updating my iPhone 13 Pro Max to iOS 18.1.1, I noticed significant changes to the emoji keyboard. Stickers are now mixed with recent emojis. Emojis appear much larger, requiring more scrolling to find specific ones.

This new setup is inconvenient, and I’m wondering if there’s a way to revert to the previous emoji keyboard design.

Honestly, I’m not happy with iOS 18. I’m not sure if it’s just me, but iOS 18 and the Sequoia update have been frustrating and more buggy than the last few years.

Making things arbitrarily larger is a big thing in the design world. It's "big" and "flashy". Gone are the days of designers caring about screen real estate, or usability, it's all about how "flashy" a design looks. Apple is a leader in this.

With every UI/UX update I become more convinced that the product managers or whoever is making these decisions at Apple are senile and don't quite grasp the fact that waiting 5 seconds for a slow animation isn't an enjoyable experience, and that most people don't want to spend a minute scrolling through hundreds of emojis when it used to be done in 30 seconds. And of course they might as well just be making things larger because they can't see very well.

Surprised you just noticed. It's been a thing with quite a number of releases. Apple's current strat is "release every year". Doesn't matter if they never fixed the bugs, just RELEASE!

I think that's what bothering me too: I pick a emoji but its a sticker and therefor are very large and takes up much space, I can't see the difference because they're all the same size on my keyboard. 😒
