Can you downgrade your OS with a new MBP out of the box?

Not sure if correct category or not but when the new Macbook Pro's come out, obviously Mavericks will be shipped with it out of the box. My question is, what if you're perfectly okay with Mountain Lion but want a new model? Is it possible to downgrade? I know you can do a fresh install through boot up so can I do the same thing except with another OS via USB? I've only upgraded and never downgraded so not sure if it's annoying to do or as simple as it seems in my head. Thanks!

Almost always the answer is no. This is because the new versions of OSX come with new drivers supporting the new hardware that are lacking in the old versions of OSX.

The exception to this is if the new model is a 'speed bump' of an older model but is based on the architecture of the old model. For example, I imagine the early 2013 rMBP 15" could probably be rolled back to Lion because the earlier rMBP shipped with it.
