I have a 27" ACD with mini dvi. Would I be able to daisy chain this to another mini dvi device (Using mini dvi to thunderbolt) once I upgrade my imac to a thunderbolt device in the near future?

Current iMacs support DisplayPort 1.1, which does not support daisy chaining. ThunderBolt2 devices apparently will support DisplayPort 1.2, which does support daisy chaining two DP monitors. One would presume the next iMac refresh will include ThunderBolt2.

Although I'm a little confused by your wording, you can still connect your 27in ACD to your future 27in iMac via the Thunderbolt port.

You can daisy chain as long as the Mini DisplayPort device is at the end of the chain. Everything else in the chain has to be Thunderbolt.
