Trudeau and crew and bumping prime ministers off of Canadian bills to make room for Viola Desmond, basically the Canadian Rosa Parks. I am not really sure how I feel about this, on one side, sure racism was terrible, but it seems to me that this serves no real purpose besides highlighting racial tensions that occurred in the past as this lady did not appear to be a life long activist for black civil rights like other figures in the US ie. Martin Luther King, or someone who fought against slavery like Harriet Tubman that was under consideration for the new American $20 dollar bill. Really the only highlighted issue during her lifetime was a negative encounter with whites and a trial that occurred afterwards. She moved and lived in New York shortly afterwards, so I am left wondering why she was chosen over other women who dedicated their entire lives to advancing women's places in engineering/athletics/etc.
