Currently running Panther on my 15" 1.25 Ghz AlBook... When using iChat I am not able to add buddies to my list.. I get this error: AIM Error Could not add <SCREENNAME> to your buddy list. (Feedbag error 17) Also, if I start a new chat I can talk to a person for a bit.. but then it removes my enter text box.. so I can't type back. Any suggestions?
it may be important to know if your using a .mac or aim account. if it is AIM, is it happening with the AIM app? you may want to test that out... you may also want to reinstall iChat - should be on the second panther install disk.
I was adding AIM buddies not .mac buddies... also I had a similar problem under Jaguar. Maybe I'll try the reinstall.. any other suggestions?
let us know how it works out. maybe the AIM buddies have a limiter or preference that doesn't allow some users to add to their buddy list. did you try using AIM to see if you could add buddies in AIM?
I had this same problem a few days ago. It turned out that i had too many people in my buddy list. I had a bunch of duplicates from doing a mass import from my address-book. So i made ichat show off line buddies, then removed my duplicates. (my brother had 3 old screen names that he does not use any more.) Then i was able to add buddies.
I guess that you have too many people in your buddy list. AIM does "only" support about 170 entries. Please do also a search here and look for my thread where I was bragging about having my buddylist full Here, I found it... http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=38811
so i guess if you wanted to have more then 170 AOL buddies, you would have to create a new AIM account and launch both iChat and AIM. put all your good buddies on iChat.
Yep, I was too cool... I deleted some fools I never talk to and my good friends extra 45 screen names and I'm golden. Thanks as always!
