iPhones aren't subsidised much in portugal. believe it not I'm still using a 3gs every day, but the battery is starting to go and its very slow..

a 6 or 6s is around €650-€800.

my cable company has 32 gig 5c for only €340, weirdly the 16 gig is €350.

is this a good idea? i don't game much on my phone, its a phone first and foremost, internet, book reading... i could probably get better value from an android phone but everything we have is apple.

i know 5c can't do touch activation or apple pay, what else can't it do?

My wife still has a 5C. I'm sure she'll be using it until it dies, which could be many years from now. She's very happy with it. The only thing missing is say is Apple Pay, fingerprint sensor, and Touch ID. Also no slow-mo, Live Photos, etc.

You may not need or care about that stuff. If you don't, go for it.

Well, the 4s can run iOS 9. I would say yes, you can get quite some life out of the 5c. I used to have a 3GS and that was still very useable as well (although I was not using it as my primary phone).

The 5c is basically the 5 with some minute internal upgrades and my 5 does very well so I don't see a problem.

I feel the 5S and 5C are a bit annoying for reading websites. Too much scrolling, too little horizontal space. IMO you'd do better with Android at the moment.

I'm not sure what the size of the 5C has to do with the operating system.

Nothing, except that you can find Android phones with better specs and larger screens for similar money. I'd rather have a 5-5.5" 1080p Android phone than a several years old iPhone with a too small screen.

the 5s 16gb is 100 euro (about 100 dollars) more than the 32gb 5c, its not worth that is it?

Well you say you come from a 3GS so you already get a huge speed bump, 4G, much better battery life, photos will look gorgeous, and enough storage. Every one who says he should switch to android tell him why.. because I have an iPhone 5 still has decent battery life and runs iOS 9 fine. Only negative thing is that it hasn't a 64 bit processor but realize that OP is coming from a 3GS..

Bad idea. At least go with a 64bit iPhone like the 5s. One or 2 more iOS versions down the road will make the 5c unusable!

you will get more phone for your money with an android if that is your budget.

logically you are correct, but i won't. got tons of apps owned, iTunes music match, I've an iMac and iPad and so's the wife, the only none apple OS in the house is the android tv box which at some stage might get replaced by a apple tv.

i either stretch for an iPhone 6, but its twice the price, get a 5c, or stick with the 3gs (don't laugh).

340 euros for an iPhone 5c is ridiculous overpayment OP

prices in portugal are pretty hefty. on the other hand our contract costs are pretty low (i pay round 9 euros for 2x sims with unlimited calls and 200mb of internet)

their costs for iPhones are:

€349 5c 32gb
€369 5c 16gb (honest)
€739 6s 16gb
€739 6 plus 16gb
€746 6 64gb
€969 6s plus 64gb

from fnac or worten i can get some different models
€649 6 16gb
€610 5s 16gb

get the 5s at least. Imo you will get more live out of it than the 5c. The 5c is already painfully slow on iOS 9.

by the time i buy a 5s though, id almost be able to buy a 6.

only more expensive option i can see is €739 for 6s. wife has 6 which I'm paying on the contract 20 euro a month for another year. if i pay off €240 (they only allow 1 phone being paid up) then i could take a 6s which i guess would be €260 plus €20 per month for 2 years. so id shell out €500 plus a year from now id pay an extra €20 per month for a year....
