I am unable to login into a specific shared folder from a Windows 10 machine. Each time I try to access the folder from the Network via the Finder, it prompts for logging in as a guest or registerd user.

When attempting to log in as a registered user, using the password assigned to the user, it rejects it. When I attempt to connect using the password of the WIndows 10 machine, it rejects the password.

When attempting to login as a guest, I get a "there was a problem connecting to the server "servername"

Meanwhile, I have logged into the same network folder on another macbook air running El Captain. No problem.

Totally stumped as to how to remedy this. Please advise.

What format are you using for your username. It’s likely you need to use NT notation.

Say your Windows 10 computer is called “Dingus” and your username is “bob”.

When you enter the username, you would type “Dingus\bob” (no quotes obviously).

I hope that helps! Let us know.

Thank you! I'll give that a try. LOL @ dingus. Dr. Brule approved ;)

Ok, so tried the Windows 10 name\macbook name to no avail. I was reading elsewhere that Mojave jammed up sharing services across Windows 10 shared folders

Have you tried the Finder’s connect to server function (Cmd-K) ?
You would type in smb://Dingus/share
See if it works that way.

Thanks for the tip.

So when I attempt to connect to the shared folder using the password for both my machine and that of the host machine, I cannot get access and am completely stumped. Am I doing something wrong here

You definitely need to use credentials that are valid on the Windows box. And you likely need to use the computername\user format. Beyond that, it’s hard to say. You can check the sharing settings/permissions on the win box.
