Hello, I have plenty of free space on my USB disk. The file I'm trying to copy is smaller than 4GB and the drive is formatted with FAT32.

However, when I try to move a file into the disk, I get this error:

Code:
The item “...” can’t be copied because there isn’t enough free space.

When I reformat the drive, it works but in time the problem reappears. I can't do this every day.

And the trash is emptied.

How do you check for hidden files?

In Unix or Linux hidden files start with a . like .Stuff for example.

I don't know if Finder shows hidden files, but the terminal will.

Open a terminal, navigate to the area where OS X mounts flash drive ( typically /Volumes ), and type:

Code:
ls -al

This will show you the hidden files.

I have a similar problem while trying to copy to an SD card. It says not enough free space, even though there is. What a load of crap. This is clearly a bug.
