Well it scratches, might be less visible than the 12 Pro/Max line. It is on the softer side, so will get dents easier. But again those happen only if you drop it.

Thanks for the response!

I have a white 12 mini I bought at launch, and it of course has the silver aluminum frame that has no coating. I’ve been pleased at the fact that it has no marks or scratches, so was curious how the color coated ones have held up in comparison since I might want to go to a different color next time around.

I haven't heard stories about discoloration since iphone 5. So you should be good to go with any color you want. You did a wise choice with silver, since it will hide better scratches/dents from an impact, while colored ones will definitely will show wear/tear with abnormal use.

No chips or scratches on my blue mini from launch. The blue has started to wear off a little on the bottom back corners, but it’s not very noticeable.

Also the silver/white one has anodized coating like all aluminum products from apple.
the coating is harder than alu and also adds corrosion protection.

as long as there are no dents its very scratch resistent.
It was only the iPhone 5/5s with the sharp edge where it came off easily. All phones after had no problem

That is great to hear!!

Ours has been holding up like a champ (blue). It's been out of a case for most of its life but it's holding up really well. Then again, never been dropped.

Same for me. Silver 12 Mini from February, 7 months old, and it is perfect. No scratches, nothing. Looks brand new. Used it about half the time with and half of the months without a case.
