    1) Start your own company
    2) Perhaps they should get it from the Messiah, as CAT could not have built that company by themselves.....
    3) or ... The workers are paying back what the company lost in profits during the workers prolong strike...Turn-about is fair play...

From the NY Times article ...

Of course, that would probably be world market rates. I'm sure the executive pay and benefits packages are also "well above market rates".

4.9 billion in profits and even brighter outlook for 2012.

And none of that gets trickled down.

Well, actually it does but you wouldn't admit it...You think their profits are hidden in a shoe box somewhere...Do you think they purchase equipment..?? Pay dividends perhaps..?? Pay their workers their meager wages..?? 70-80K on average...

Doing some quick research that is how much Engineers at caterpillar are making.

Which is hardly above the market average.

When a company, that is making profit, asks for a six-year wage and pension freeze, what get's trickled down over that span of time?

Heh. How do you lose profits and make record profits at the same time?

And no, turnabout is not fair play. When a strike leads to an agreement between management and labor, labor expects management to hold up their end, not exact revenge.

    USA!! USA!!

It's about time your workers took a leaf out of the French strategy book. Until you stand up for yourselves this will only get worse.

It's funny because CAT was losing money only a few years ago.

Companies which are that dependent on "cycles" - tied heavily to the construction business overall - have to manage their personnel and expenses in such a manner as to match the periods where business doesn't boom (like several years ago) rather than the periods of profit, such as now.

I am also not sure how their union contracts work but I'd be really surprised if they had any ability to temporarily increase union wages and/or give one-time bonuses to union workers to distribute the profits to them.

So don't work for them. It's still a free country - at least for a while longer.

If you give them a bonus when times are good you don't have to when times are bad.

In which countries are you forced to work for certain companies?

    ----------

    Then change those contracts.

So corps are granted personhood but somehow exempt from moral and ethical standards and personal responsibility that is so dear to the hearts of repubs. Why?

Of course they are. Don't you guys get it, as long as its legal, a corporation can do anything the board of directors wants to do. If you don't like it, quit.

We need a maximum pay law and/or a law that gives employees some way of obtaining equity in the businesses they work for. Business owners always talk about how wonderful they are... wouldn't their employees be better if they owned a share? Our local grocery market is employee owned, and it's awesome.

BS- share it with the people who built the products. You people amaze me- you scream trickle down all the time, when you know it's a bunch of crap. I worked for a company like this, before. It's not fun. Unfortunately, this kind of thing is becoming a trend.

None of us can afford to simply say, "then go work somewhere else." This garbage needs to be stopped now.
